Quebec, QC, Canada, April 29th, 2016 –NuRAN Wireless (CSE: NUR) is pleased to announce that its wholly owned subsidiary, Nutaq Innovation, has launched its 2nd generation of the PicoSDR, a well established line of software-defined radio products that now fills another gap in the path towards 5G development as a result of its unique technology.

One of the major challenges faced by the wireless communications industry in the transition from 4G to 5G is the very large increase in the number of antennas each base station manages and more importantly the synchronisation between them. The 2nd generation PicoSDR is a software-defined radio (SDR) used by R&D engineers and is characterized by its 8 fully synchronised antennas per radio as well as the automatic synchronisation of multiple radios therefore reducing considerably the development time and complexity of 5G base stations and terminals.

Other uses for this product include organisations, such as in the area of defense, developing beam forming, phased-array and direction finding systems for whom the automatic gain & phase coherency calibration provided by this product is extremely valuable especially due to cost reductions compared to the expensive equipment traditionally used.

Nutaq and Analog Devices (ADI:NASDAQ) collaborated closely together for several months to unlock the full performance of the Analog Devices AD9361 chipset across all the frequencies on one single radio. This is a major achievement for the PicoSDR 2nd Generation as it is the first commercial SDR to realize this accomplishment.

“We are very excited and proud to launch such an innovative product that responds directly to Nutaq’s mission of democratizing the access to technology with a platform that reduces the costs of acquisition but also the time and efforts required to overcome challenges which engineers used to face when setting up a prototyping platform. The launch of the PicoSDR 2nd Generation delivers excitement to the market by filling this gap and allowing engineers to focus on other challenges that still have to be solved in the quest towards 5G deployment” explained Martin Bédard, Co-CEO of NuRAN Wireless.
