NuRAN Wireless, a leading supplier of mobile and broadband wireless solutions, is successfully deploying thousands of its GSM picocell in one of the world’s biggest mobile operator’s network.
The undisclosed mobile operator is deploying NuRAN Wireless’ GSM Superfemto to enhance in-building coverage for office spaces and other areas where users experience poor quality of service. The installed units not only increase indoor signal strength, they also offload the macro network, a highly desirable feature in dense areas. By adding these small radius cells where demand is concentrated and where signals from outdoor base stations are severely attenuated, operators exploit cellular frequencies in a localized manner, thereby making much more efficient use of licensed spectrum.

Trials with the operator were completed several months ago. The Superfemto has since been shipping to this customer in volumes, as part of a firm order of several thousands of units yearly.
