Quebec City, Qc, November 3rd, 2015 – NuRAN Wireless Inc. (“NuRAN Wireless” or the “Company”) is thrilled to announce it has been selected by Panthera, a global wild cat conservation organization for a trial of its GSM LiteCell contributing to the protection of these animals from poachers.

Panthera has developed an intelligent infrared camera triggered by movement, called the “PoacherCam”. When a movement is detected, the camera takes a picture that is analyzed to differentiate human from animal activities. If the picture is classified as being the one of a human, it is automatically transmitted through the mobile network to the local anti-poaching authorities who takes the appropriate measures.

The areas under the surveillance of Panthera often being without coverage of standard mobile networks because of their remote locations, NuRAN Wireless is providing to the organization a small, self-standing mobile network that covers up to 24 kilometers.

This trial is expected to lead to the deployment of more GSM LiteCell in Asia and Africa in 2016. “Panthera’s private machine-to-machine (M2M) network is a perfect example of the variety of potential use cases that comes with our GSM LiteCell and goes way beyond the standard mobile Telco application. The possibility to establish a reliable and low power consumption private network at low cost is a considerable gain for organizations that work in environment, health or public safety“ said Martin Bédard, co-president and co-ceo of NuRAN Wireless. “It is a great feeling to contribute to this initiative, both because of the business opportunity and the feeling of preserving the nature”.
